Installation guides, system diagnostics, and technical answers for producers, composers, and sound designers.

Installation & DAW Setup

Which DAWs does PhosphorVox support?

PhosphorVox targets VST3, AU (macOS), and Standalone formats, compatible with Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, Reaper, Bitwig, Cubase, and other modern hosts.

Where does the VST3 plugin install?

macOS: ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3
Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

How do I flush the Logic Pro AU cache?

Open Terminal and run: killall -9 AudioComponentRegistrar, then reopen Logic Pro. It will rescan all AU plugins.

Does it support Apple Silicon natively?

Yes. Native compatibility across M1, M2, M3, and M4 systems, alongside Windows 10 and Windows 11 64-bit.

Audio & Performance

Is the audio thread safe?

The DSP core uses fixed-size buffers and zero-allocation runtime patterns — no heap allocations occur on the real-time audio thread. Target CPU usage is sub-1.5% per instance for representative sessions.

What sample rates are supported?

44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, and 96 kHz. The engine is sample-rate-agnostic — all filter coefficients and buffer sizes adapt automatically.

I'm getting audio crackles / buffer underruns

Increase your DAW's audio buffer size to 256 or 512 samples. PhosphorVox processes in fixed-size blocks, so larger buffers reduce scheduling pressure on the audio thread.

What makes it different from a normal drum synth?

The sounding model is a 44-section Kelly–Lochbaum waveguide driven by an LF or Rosenberg glottal source. Tongue, lip, and velum controls set section areas. Saliva latch, lung volume, and false-fold coupling are score-path controls, not a separate fluid solver.

Licensing & Activation

How does licensing work after purchase?

Lemon Squeezy handles checkout and instant license-key delivery. The commercial flow supports offline authorization and two-machine activation per customer license.

Is the included content royalty-free?

Yes. The license grants 100% royalty-free use in music releases, trailers, TV, ads, games, and interactive projects. No per-track reporting or recurring royalties.

Can I use it offline?

Yes. The core DSP, browser showcase patches, and Jev fallback groove engine all run offline. The only network-dependent feature is live OpenRouter access for remote Jev AI completions.

Specialized Use Cases

Can I use PhosphorVox for creature vocals or cinematic design?

Absolutely. Titan tract scaling, avian syrinx layering, throat singing, swarm rendering, feedback coupling, and acoustic waveguide termination make it suitable for creatures, ritual textures, alien languages, and hybrid vocal percussion.

Is there a sample library version?

Yes. PhosphorVault packages 160 master 24-bit / 48 kHz transient and articulatory WAV specimens (kicks, snares, pops, throat bass, cycles) rendered directly from the physical waveguide engine for sound designers and samplers — available separately or as part of the Studio Suite.

Can I use it for language learning?

Yes. The Foreign Language Training Lab provides guided articulatory presets for 34 difficult sounds across 6 language families, with real-time formant radar and interactive 3D feedback.

Is it suitable for clinical speech therapy?

PhosphorVox includes clinical pathology simulations (vocal fatigue, hypernasality, spasmodic tremor), visual biofeedback for deaf education, and real-time acoustic telemetry (Jitter, Shimmer, HNR, Subglottal Pressure). Research & Educational Instrument — FDA Class I Exempt. Not for standalone medical diagnosis.

System Diagnostics

How do I run the System Doctor?

Visit the Playground page and use the Doctor diagnostic tool accessible from the right panel. It checks audio context, 3D rendering, microphone permissions, and service worker status.

The browser demo shows a black screen

PhosphorVox uses WebGL for 3D rendering. Ensure your browser supports WebGL 2.0 and hardware acceleration is enabled. Try disabling ad-blockers that may filter CDN scripts. The vendored Three.js module runs locally without CDN dependency.

Do I need an API key for the Jev showcase?

No. The playground includes a deterministic local fallback table, so AI-style groove demonstrations run instantly without a network connection or API cost. An OpenRouter key enables non-deterministic completions.
